Vengeance and Recompense Belong to the Lord!

12 Sep Vengeance and Recompense Belong to the Lord!

Remember, God is a God of vengeance and recompense (Isaiah 35:4).

Several years ago, as Kevin and I arrived in Crimea for our conference and outreach, we were met by a caravan of Mercedes Benzes. At that time, typically, anyone who had a Mercedes worked for the mafia.  We were shocked because we knew what was happening in that region!

Our drivers assured us that everything was okay. A little while later, we pulled into a long driveway and a mansion appeared on the horizon. We were invited in for dinner, where Pastor Peter finally welcomed us.

It was obvious to us that we were in the house of a mafia boss, but for what reason were we there?

A few weeks earlier, Pastor Peter had made a public declaration in the central park of the city, “Because of the refusal of our regional mafia boss to stop his aggression against the church and turn his heart toward God, I turn him over to Satan for the destruction of his flesh.”

What happened next was almost shocking! The mafia boss was speeding down the local highway and hit a pothole, flipping his car over and killing him. The others came out unscathed. We were sitting in the home of this boss, now owned by the second in command. When he saw the wreck, he immediately cried out to God. He knew what had happened!

I don’t believe that God killed that man, but Satan destroyed his life (1 Corinthians 5:5). In fact, the scripture tells us that Paul turned a man over for the destruction of his flesh so that he might be saved on the Day of the Lord.

Unfortunately, this story did not turn out so well for this mafia boss who refused to repent and change his ways!

I think America could be a much better place if people understood that when struggling against evil, God has a way! We don’t need to judge, become bitter, or walk in hatred. No! God has made a way through His Word. If necessary, we can turn the one who refuses to repent over to Satan. This is not a measure taken without clear reason. Perhaps this sounds hard, but hell is real and, when one does not repent, their life is forever trapped in a horrible existence of torment and damnation.

Today, I am preaching to a group that loves the Lord and would never consider doing the things this mafia boss had done, such as stealing from church offerings, threatening leaders, and taking property. However, I do know that when we are treated unjustly, God has an answer for the wicked in the land:

Repent, receive Christ, and turn from your wicked ways!

He will come and save you!

Tune in to this week’s message, and learn more about God’s vengeance and recompense.
