Resisting Sickness

15 Nov Resisting Sickness

One day after many days of hard work, my husband and I decided to take a day off. In the evening before going to sleep, we agreed to go to the beach early in the morning, just to forget about work and spend some time together.

With very pleasant thoughts about the coming day, I went to bed. But at night, I started feeling bad with an upset stomach. I felt terrible! The first thought that came into my mind was, There you go! What a “nice” day we are going to have tomorrow.  How will I go swimming?? However, my next thought was, I need to make a decision right now: either I will be sick and lie in bed (which would break all our wonderful plans for tomorrow), or I will not surrender to this sickness, trust the Lord and have an excellent rest with my husband tomorrow.

Immediately, I got up, opened my Bible and began to read God’s medicine. And although I was still feeling terrible, I started to speak, “I believe that by Jesus’ wounds I am healed!”

I decided I would not go to bed until I was better, so I started walking around the room. It was difficult for me to stand since I was still in a lot of pain, so I leaned against the wall and continued speaking, “By Jesus’ wounds I am healed! By Jesus’ wounds I am healed! Thank you, Jesus, You are my healer! You died for my sicknesses. Lord, I believe that with Your own blood You have already paid the price for all my infirmities.”

Everything inside of me was screaming, “Go back to bed! You can barely stand, go to bed!” But I said, “No! By Your wounds, Jesus, I am healed! Since I am already healed, therefore, I will act as though I feel excellent. Despite my feelings, I will behave as if I am healed.” I began to praise God, “Thank you, Jesus! Thank you, Jesus! Thank you, Jesus!” I was walking around the room saying, “Thank you, Jesus. Lord, by Your wounds I am healed, by Your wounds! Thank you, Jesus! Thank you, Lord!”

Some of you may think this is ridiculous, or that it is self-hypnosis. But what I was doing was simply resisting the sickness, not giving-up, but believing! Maybe it looked foolish or even funny, but after some time, I started feeling sleepy again because all the pain had disappeared. Something had changed! I continued to walk around and praise, “Thank you, God! Thank you, Jesus! Thank you, Jesus!” I worshiped the Lord for some time and went back to bed.

In the morning, I woke and got ready to go to the beach. Suddenly my stomach started hurting again, so I said, “No! No! Devil, you’re a liar! I am healed! By Jesus’ wounds I am healed! I will have a wonderful day today!” I was still feeling weak but went to the beach anyway. Later in the evening I remembered that I had been feeling bad in the morning, but as soon as I decided not to give up, all symptoms disappeared and I even forgot about them. We had a very good day, because I did not believe the illness but continued to believe the Word of God, and God healed me!
