WHAT PICTURE DO YOU HOLD IN YOUR HEART?
Part 4 of the Power of Imagination Series
In the world today, keeping the picture in your heart clear of fear, failure and a half-empty-glass attitude can be challenging. Cultivating hope is essential, because hope is the picture that activates faith (Hebrews 11:1). Hope is the dream or the vision that you carry in your heart.
“If you can see it you can be it.” This worldly adage has a lot of truth in it. We become the image of how we see ourselves. For the Christian believer, we are the righteousness of God. In other words, we are in right-standing with God. We are the redeemed, meaning we can live above the torments of hell, sickness, disease and poverty.
One afternoon as an artist arrived in a train station, he glanced out the window and saw a drunk lying on the ground in a pool of urine. He was dirty, disheveled and disoriented. The artist grabbed his sketch pad and began to draw. He disembarked the train and walked over the to where the drunk was lying and continued to sketch. Occasionally, the drunk would wake up just enough to raise an eyelid and then he would fall back into his drunken stupor. Finally, after some time, the drunk came to himself and asked the artist what he was doing. The artist replied, “Drawing you.” Managing to pull himself up he walked over behind the artist to look at the sketch. He was surprised. There, on the sketch pad, was a clean cut young man in a business suit with a tie. The drunk said, “Who is that? That’s not me!” The artist proceeded to tell him that that was exactly how he saw him. That young drunk walked out of that train station armed with a new vision of himself and never took another drink. The story says he proceeded to become a successful businessman.
How can change like this happen so rapidly? Michelangelo, the famous sculptor and artist, had an amazing ability to see the statuesque image he desired to carve in a block of rough stone. God, who is the master painter of the universe, always sees the finished masterpiece. I submit to you that when you are armed with the right picture of who you are, you can do anything you set your mind to! Whatever you desire, learn to paint the picture of HOPE by placing God’s word in your heart!
